The steep incline, combined with the differences between full sun and no sun, provided us with the site challenges, but they were inherently solved with their analysis. To bring stability back to the land and prevent soil erosion, we built a complex network of natural stone wall systems that created levels of tiers, allowing beautiful grade drainage within the garden space. In the middle of the garden is a colorful selection of tough, native perennials that provide seasonal interest. We added some tough perennials like coneflowers black-eyed Susans, and ornamental grasses that do a gentle dance in the breeze. The wide array of colors and textures adds visual interest throughout the year and provides a pollinator magnet. The formality of the garden is further accentuated by the addition of a custom laid stone pathway that weaves throughout the landscape encouraging visitors to venture through each portion of the garden. The bluestone path, handmade locally fits perfectly into the surroundings and provides a durable, timeless, stylish, and functional solution matching the architecture of the house. However, the did not come without challenges most notably tackling the rocky terrain and ensuring irrigation was up to scratch. Instead, our team skillfully designed a drip irrigation that waters right at the roots of the plant, creating a low maintenance and sustainable landscape. Out comes a stunning hillside garden that has become a cherished part of the home, providing a serene outdoor setting where this family can unwind or mingle. Pleased with her vision made tangible, the grateful client remarked that what they perceived did indeed become real, as Donald Pell Gardens continues to showcase its fine workmanship and effort in the new garden space.
