Chicago Roof Garden by Craig Bergmann Landscape Design The Chicago Roof Garden is an example of Craig Bergmann Landscape Design working successfully to create an urban retreat built atop a dense metropolitan city. This is built for the communities of Bannockburn, Chicago, Deerfield, Glencoe, Highland Park, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Northbrook, and Winnetka and it reflects our quality and innovation in landscape work. The design integrates an assortment of native plantings such as ornamental grasses, colorful perennials, and clustered shrubs, all selected for their suitability to withstand the harsh conditions on a windy rooftop. Given the urban environment, we included quality soil and drainage to provide an oasis of greenery and proper growing conditions yet overcome the challenges of the environment. A beautiful combination of materials was used to increase functionality as well as decoration. Hardy composite decking creates a cosy area for lounging with four flagstone pathways guiding guests around the garden, beautifully connecting the seating and firepits to the garden during the night. Vertical gardens and trellises also create depth and texture, pulling your eye up and back, making the space feel bigger. The ended up experiencing the usual stuff: You can't put too much weight into a 60s style Flat (concrete slab) and irrigation systems have to be as efficient as possible. These challenges were solved with engineering ingenuity by our talented team to keep the garden sustainable through all seasons. The end result is an absolutely stunning marriage between nature and city living and gives the client a beautiful corner of their own that opens up to the city skyline.
