Acting as a coastal counterpart to land residence, nestled in a small enclave of the Del Mar, California; this landscape design marries rustic beauty with a modern edge to meet our client needs. We worked in a variety of materials, such as locally acquired stoneworks for pathways and terraced seating locations, which pair beautifully with the abundant greenery and give a consistent feel across the property. There are permeable pavers that allow water to drain through them, keeping the landscape alive and functioning through rain events. Dealing with a slope was one of the biggest challenges we had to overcome with this , but we found a way to approach it in a way that looks good and provides stability. Here our team commercially engineered hillside retaining walls to support the landscape while also standing on their own as unique architectural features, nestled into the surroundings. We also installed a smart irrigation system that efficiently manages water levels to help sustain the plants over time. The end result of Del Mar Atria is an inviting new landscape that promotes a place to gather and unwind. Step meandering paths that lead visitors and clients through an oasis filled with native plants to places to sit making it both luxurious yet somewhat homely.
