Summary: Cool Oasis in Brookline MA Completed by CHRISTIE DUSTMAN & COMPANY INC. In Brookline, MA, CHRISTIE DUSTMAN & COMPANY INC. renovated a typical backyard into a beautiful outdoor oasis. The design thoughtfully considers both usability and design with a natural blend of native plantings, annual flower beds, and natural water features. The focal point of the Cool Oasis is a fully custom pond with a natural waterfall for sound. The team chose high-quality, local cobble-stone edging for the pond that looks even more natural in the site’s landscape. The area surrounding the pond was planted with diverse native perennials and ornamental grasses to bring long-term interest to the site and provide local wildlife habitat. One of the more challenging aspects of the was working with the yard’s slope, which needed innovative grading and incorporation of structural elements to create usable yard space with a natural appearance. In response, our designers came up with tiered planting beds with retaining walls built from reclaimed granite to stabilize the property and add visual interest. In addition to the pond, we installed a curvilinear flagstone path (walkway) through the yard that leads guests through a pleasant journey of blooming flowers and ornamental plants. The path is flanked with primarily low-maintenance shrubs and seasonal flowers so that the installation remains lively in every season. The end result is a functional and beautiful outdoor oasis that not only satisfies the clients’ request for a retreat-type space, but also significantly enhances the property and cohesion of nature. The happy clients now have a peaceful space to sit and entertain, proving once again that with talent and hard work, we can turn any functional site into a masterpiece.
