Wildflower Meadows by The Natural Garden. Located in beautiful Shenandoah Valley, our 'Wildflower Meado,w changed the definition of natural beauty for a client that wanted to enhance their surroundings in a relationship with their outdoor space. Serving the surrounding communities of Bridgewater, Broadway, Harrisonburg, and more, The Natural Garden eagerly took on the intricate challenge of create a natural, wildflower meadow from their traditional lawn. We carefully gathered together a wonderful native seed mix of wildflower species that included native plants such as Black-eyed Susan, Coneflowers, and Butterly Milkweed in order to promote biodiverse landscapes and pollinators that are natural to the region they live in. Not only was it important to incorporate native wildflowers to add bright colorful blooms throughout the growing season, but we also collectively arranged the flowers to be more sustainable over time. In addition to the remarkable flowers, we included natural stone pathways built out of locally-sourced granite loosely related to the real aesthetic of the rural area surrounding the property. We faced a unique challenge due to the existing soil conditions on site which required extensive soil testing and amendments for growth success of wildflowers. With the dread of soil health in the back of our minds, we consulted with a local gardening expertise and implemented sustainable and organic practices of building organic compost into such conditions of poor drainage qualities and amending soil. The ended with a much richer, vibrant wildflower meadow design that was thoroughly considered for the wildlife that would occupy the finished life. The dynamic designs provided beautiful seasonal changes in the client landscape and enhance the curb appeal of the property while adding value that clients can live in the flowers or natural prairie. At this point, the client felt overall satisfaction with the results; more visits from wildlife started to take place as well as a resting spot to enjoy and watch the surroundings and hold lasting memories. Overall, the finished finished adds quality, positive engagement in the environment for the client at home, and enhances their experience of land use.
