Horton Residence | All Seasons Gardening and Landscaping The Horton Residence sits in the charming hills of San Luis Obispo County and represents the marriage of nature and design. All Seasons Gardening and Landscaping was challenged to convert a large backyard with excess space into a livable outdoor room that would thrive throughout the seasons. Through a detailed analysis of the site, we noted key components such as sun exposure, types of soil and existing vegetation. We were able to conclude that using drought-resistant plants, which are native to the location, would increase eco-friendliness and provide a design that would need minimal maintenance and water usage. To achieve this design, we implemented a variety of fall flowers, winter shrubs, and ornamental grasses to create a garden with interesting landscapes throughout the whole year. Simultaneously, the new design successfully attracted local wildlife. A focal point of the Horton Residence is the beautiful stone path designed and crafted from locally-sourced flagstone, which winds through the garden to connect the home with the various key areas. The calming sound of water flowing over smooth river stones in the water feature allows for a peaceful gathering place or chitchat among friends. While designing, it became clear that one of the most vital components is getting rid of the uneven surfaces. Our talented team expertly graded the site and built tiered garden beds to accommodate the slope, while preventing erosion and allowing drainage. In addition, we focused on the eco-friendly aspect of landscaping, and designed and installed a custom drip irrigation system, which maximized water usage while attempting to minimize water runoff, and nourish the plants. Overall, the end product of the Horton Residence creates a beautiful area that honors the client's vision, and showcases the quality of work crafted by All Seasons Gardening and Landscaping. The home owners expressed joy in the transformation and benefits of increased property value and quality space to enjoy family and guests.
