Symphony Park Pate Landscape Architecture Inc., is pleased to announce the groundbreaking of an innovative landscaping ; Symphony Park, responds to the need for new public spaces that engage nature in an urban setting. Stunningly built in a heavily trafficked neighborhood in metropolitan Boston, Symphony Park will provide a respite for the neighboring communities of Allston, Cambridge and Waltham. Symphony Park utilizes an extensive array of native planting, sustainable materials and thought out design features. A multi-tiered water feature using natural stone and recycled materials is prominent in Symphony Park, providing a calming sound element and attracting wildlife and visitors alike. Surrounding the water feature are flamboyant perennial gardens, ornamental grasses and seasonal blooms to maintain visual dynamism. One of the most problematic site conditions of this was the varying location grade. The challenges with the changed topography required significant grading and retaining wall, to ensure the landscape maintained a natural look and addressed correct drainage. Furthermore, by adding stormwater management techniques we improved the sustainability of the park as well as the biodiversity of the perennial vegetation. The bluestone pathways, sourced from a local quarry, meander through the park as walkers engage the visual and sensory experience of the park. Custom reclaimed wood benches provide resting opportunities for visitors. Fixed lighting creates safety and welcoming sensations, so that the park may be experienced after dark. The Symphony Park has exceeded the client's expectations; a once prohibited public parcel is transformed into a vibrant community space. Unique to this , the implementation of intelligent landscape solutions are fostered neighborhood pride, so Symphony Park is not just a destination but woven into their everyday lives, Pate Landscape Architecture Inc. is privileged to be involved in this exemplary urban space.
