Retirement Community by Pate Landscape Architecture Inc. Pate Landscape Architecture Inc. is proud to introduce our most recent renovation , the Retirement Community situated in an urban, multi-family setting in the Greater Boston area. The aimed to provide a peaceful and comfortable environment for residents, in addition to being functional, adding beauty to a large landscape. The highlights a beautifully designed walking path with native plants to support biodiversity, while facilitating a colorful and interesting outdoor experience. We used high-quality permeable pavement materials to improve accessiblity while maintaining sustainability related to stormwater management, which was a significant issue given the topography of the site. The calmness of the meditation garden is made memorable by the bubbling water feature and comfortable seating areas, crafted from stone to fit with the natural offerings of the garden. Vertical gardens allowed us to provide some greenery in limited space, while marginally more foot traffic occurs, addressing some functional challenges in the surrounding landscape. We worked to provide shaded seating and communal areas using custom built pergolas that indicate the transition between the individual space and the larger community. We chose drought resistant plants to ensure a sustainable landscape with low maintenance through all of the seasons. The results of the layout create opportunities for nature and community where residents may enjoy peaceful walks, socializing, and quiet time in curated outdoor living spaces.
