LARGE by HI DEF Landscapes & DesignOct 2023 Here at HI DEF Landscapes & Design, we revel in converting yards into spectacular sanctuaries, and our last LARGE was no exception. Centering in Centennial, this more than two-acre landscape renovation features a unique blend of components that complement nature. The scope of the work started with an in-depth consultation with the homeowners who wanted the space to be functional as well as visually pleasing. The new site plan featured terraced gardens, a custom stone patio, and a meandering garden path just waiting to be explored by the homeowner. The pathway and patio have been constructed from locally sourced natural stone which also means it is both durable and aesthetically pleasing for years to come. Permeable pavers not only enhanced the design but also helped with drainage, which is a major challenge in this area due to the clay soil. We also excluded many native and other trees that work well in the climate of Colorado which adds biodiversity and needs very little maintenance. Carefully placed evergreens and flowering shrubs not only maintain beauty year round, but provide privacy and sound buffering turned this space into a quiet oasis away from the road noise of nearby streets. One of the biggest hurdles was dealing with the site elevation changes through the property. The raised beds offered an additional challenge to the property as soil movement and settling could affect the beds, so our team expertly utilized natural stone to create utilizing retaining walls that in turn stabilized and supported while providing visual interest to the landscape. It turned out to be a beautiful multilevel continuous garden that boasts bright summer flowers and sweeping spring blooms as well as exquisite fall foliage. The transformation created a happy couple at the home, who couldn't be happier with the outcome. Their outdoor space is now a beautiful sanctuary ready to entertain and lounge in, LARGER did not just meet their expectations but exceeded them. The stonework and landscaping detail in this are all testament to the care and attention to detail provided by HI DEF Landscapes & Design for their clients.
