Shade Garden by Sylvia's Landscaping Company, LLC At Sylvia's Landscaping Company, LLC, we are pleased to announce our latest , the 'Shade Garden', an exciting retreat that combines nature and landscaping. Located in a quiet nook of Highland Park, our client wanted to convert this area, which consisted of minimal sunlight, into a lush space of only things that thrive in this environment. The Shade Garden fit that description perfectly. Plants were thoughtfully selected for their shade, textures and color and included hostas, ferns and astilbes. We also incorporated natural stone paths throughout the garden to guide visitors through the garden's unique layout. The paths were constructed using sustainably sourced flagstones and will stand the test of time in this environment. One challenge we contended with was the existing tree canopy, which cast deep shade and prevented light from reaching ground level. Our team of experienced landscape architects spent the necessary time picking plants that flourish even in the shade so that the garden will remain dynamic throughout the seasons. A careful installation detail was to assure we created a drainage system that would prevent pooling, as we do believe water pooling would detract from the garden's overall health and longevity. Ultimately, the Shade Garden turned out to be stunning, beautiful and a spot for quiet relaxation. The plants, the stone, and the design now create a lovely space for our client to relax and be surrounded by nature. This met and exceeded the expectations of the client - we turned their imagination into a lush reality.
