About This Project

Bird Watcher's Residence The Bird Watcher's Residence, developed by GCH Planning & Landscape Architecture, is an exemplary landscaping located in Seattle, which was designed to transform a typical yard into a peaceful habitat for birds and birdwatching. The embodies the quality of craftsmanship, innovation and design, in an ordinary site, resulting in a stunning wildlife haven. The includes a variety of local plants deliberately chosen to entice various birds while thriving in the PNW climate. We introduced a variety of perennials, grasses, and flowering shrubs, providing colour, visual interest and beauty all year long. The custom-built village of bird houses ensured safe nesting options for birds in the most optimal locations. Another challenge dealt with the slope of the site, which meant creative terracing solutions were required to build flat areas for bird feeders and seating. We introduced reclaimed stone and timber from the local area to create natural terraces that retained the slope to build charm. This approach complemented and enhanced the natural condition of the site and produced suitable places for the homeowners to enjoy the bird watching experience. In terms of attracting birds a water feature, with a natural stone fountain, was introduced to generate water for drinking and bathing. The soothing sound of water provided an experience that encouraged feathered friends to enjoy the landscape. The final product is both functional and beautiful - making the client very happy with the outcome of the . The area surrounding the home is a quiet, peaceful refuge, where the homeowners can relax and enjoy the sound and sights of nature, from their very own backyard. GCH Planning & Landscape Architecture appreciated the opportunity to turn this landscape into a lively sanctuary that connects the beauty of wildlife while also providing excitement to the practice of sustainable landscaping.
