This exemplifies our design and building philosophy in turning a suburban backyard into a backyard escape. This is anchored by an aesthetically pleasing pool covered with a natural stone coping that integrates naturally beneath the skin of the landscape. The pool was built using Gunite, which is rather superior and durable compared to concrete pools and looks good too. Designing the poolside, we installed a large new travertine deck, travertine provides a warm aesthetic in addition to being beautiful, while remaining cool underfoot. We implemented drought-tolerant landscaping, colorful and textured varied plant zones to function under the Bay Area Mediterranean climate. We chose California poppies, lavender and other native plants that are both beautiful and enhance our local biodiversity. An automatic irrigation system was implemented to ensure sustainability of the landscaping with as little water as possible. We did encounter some challenges during the , including the slope of the site, which necessitated grading and retaining wall construction to establish a level area for the pool and other surrounding features. This complexity was an easy maneuver for our team as they integrated natural boulders not only as visual accents but efficient components to strengthen the slope as well. The end product is a seamless balance of design and utility, with well-positioned seating and low-level lighting to entice night-time socials. Our client was ecstatic with the end result describing it as their little escape from daily life where they could find their sense of comfort in solitude.
