CFLD Landscape Design: LOSE THE LAWN FRONT YARD CFLD Landscape Design recently introduced the LOSE THE LAWN FRONT YARD Initiative, which focuses on recreating and beautifying outdoor areas with an environmentally-friendly approach. They contacted our team which services areas including Arden-Arcade, Carmichael, Marin County, and beyond and we were eager to tackle this unique challenge in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The client wanted to eradicate the traditional water, and maintenance, sucking grass lawn and replace it with a colourful, sustainable planting scheme. We started with the creation of a multi-faceted yard that incorporates native drought-tolerant planting, flowering perennials, and stone hardscaping. We incorporated permeable pavers not only to improve aesthetics but also to solve its drainage problems for durability & open space for use. This recently completed includes a beautiful dry creek bed that channels rainwater from the home and also adds a natural element to the yard. Since there is a slope from the existing site, this feature would also prove difficult. To combine beauty with a function, our expert team painstakingly personalized the creek bed with a local river rock. We also added raised garden beds with reclaimed wood as an option for the client to be able to plant herbs or vegetables, Along with the other items promoting a sustainable lifestyle. The lawn was replaced with a green palette of ornamental grasses and ground cover plants that thrive year-round, creating a dense, yet low-maintenance, landscape. The end product surpassed the clients expectations and turned their front yard into an oasis of greenery that is beautifying the curb appeal while providing a sustainable ecosystem.
