About This Project

Roger's Remodel in Norfolk, VA, exemplifies a heartfelt transformation that perfectly marries functionality with style. This project, undertaken in 2019, was driven by the needs of my father, Roger, a passionate cook who cherishes family gatherings and culinary experiences. Understanding the importance of an inviting and efficient space for both cooking and entertaining, we set out to create an open concept layout that would enhance the flow of the home while accommodating his love for hosting. The renovation began with the strategic removal of the mechanical closet and walls that previously segmented the kitchen from the family room, resulting in a wide-open area perfect for social interaction. The design incorporated a new peninsula that not only provided additional countertop space but also offered ample storage solutions. This thoughtful addition significantly increased the kitchen's functionality, allowing for multiple family members to cook and interact simultaneously. A standout feature of the remodel is the stunning 6-foot long raised waterfall bar top crafted from rich Walnut. This elegant piece serves as a casual seating area, encouraging family and friends to gather around while meals are being prepared. To enhance the existing cabinetry on the window wall, we retained the original cabinets but added a Zephyr Wine Preserve and a tray base cabinet at the end of the run, creating a cohesive look while maximizing counter space for meal preparation and serving. The overall aesthetic of the family room embodies a transitional design, characterized by a harmonious blend of modern and traditional elements. The laminate flooring complements the beige walls, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The craftsmanship involved in this remodel reflects a commitment to quality and attention to detail, resulting in a space that not only meets the practical needs of a growing family but also serves as a beautiful backdrop for cherished memories. Roger's Remodel stands as a testament to how thoughtful design can elevate a home, making it a true reflection of its inhabitants.
