About This Project

JDBG was tasked with modernizing and updating a 1950’s ranch-style home in Springfield, VA, to better serve a multigenerational family. The original main floor bathroom featured an unusual Jack-and-Jill layout, which included two toilets, two vanities, and a single tub/shower adorned in vintage mint green. To enhance functionality and aesthetics, we undertook creative modifications to the existing walls and removed a small linen closet, successfully transforming the space into two distinct and fully functional bathrooms. In the guest bathroom, we embraced a clean black and white palette that exudes sophistication. The design is anchored by a beautifully stained wood vanity that introduces warmth while complementing the bold hexagon tiles that serve as a striking focal point. The geometric pattern not only adds visual interest but also enhances the perception of space within the compact area. The vertical tile layout further emphasizes the height of the room, creating an illusion of openness and modernity. The master bathroom underwent a similar transformation, where calming warm grays were chosen to foster a serene atmosphere. A geometric floor tile was laid in a random pattern, contributing to the modern minimalist style we aimed to achieve. The slab front vanity, with its mid-century vibe, not only aligns with the overall aesthetic of the home but also provides ample storage—a critical consideration in smaller bathrooms. With numerous drawers and generous countertop space, functionality is seamlessly integrated into the design. The outcome of this project is two beautifully appointed bathrooms that not only meet the needs of a multigenerational family but also embody a harmonious blend of style and practicality. The vibrant backdrop of the master bedroom, paired with the tranquil yet bold design choices in the bathrooms, creates a cohesive and inviting atmosphere, making this home a perfect sanctuary for its inhabitants.
