Nestled in the enchanting hills of Santa Cruz, the "Old World Goes Modern" project represents a transformative journey that melds the charm of traditional aesthetics with contemporary functionality. The clients, drawn to the stunning landscape and unique location, envisioned a home that reflected their modern tastes while shedding the overwhelming characteristics of the existing architecture. Originally, the residence featured a ranch-style exterior, but the interiors were dominated by an eclectic Spanish Hacienda style that felt constricted and cluttered. Our design approach focused on creating a seamless flow between the living room, kitchen, and dining areas, effectively addressing the previous layout's discomfort. Through meticulous structural engineering, we vaulted the ceilings, introducing a sense of grandeur and openness that was previously absent. The combination of natural light flooding through newly installed skylights and expansive windows invites the breathtaking views of the Santa Cruz mountains inside, enhancing the overall ambiance. The choice of materials was deliberate and thoughtful, emphasizing a balance between modern elegance and rustic warmth. We selected medium-tone hardwood flooring that complements the soft beige walls, creating a neutral backdrop that allows for personal touches in dec. High-quality fixtures and minimalist cabinetry were integrated into the kitchen, blending functionality with sleek aesthetics, while the dining area was designed to accommodate gatherings, fostering a welcoming atmosphere. Craftsmanship played a pivotal role in this project, with skilled artisans bringing our vision to life through detailed woodwork and custom installations. The outcome is a harmonious living space that resonates with the clients’ modern sensibilities while paying homage to the home’s original charm.
