Long Island Sound in CT Completed by: PETER ATKINS AND ASSOCIATES, LLC Located on the beautiful shores of Long Island Sound, this extensive landscaping was executed by PETER ATKINS AND ASSOCIATES, LLC, and covers the communities of Armonk, Bedford, and beyond. The idea for the outdoor oasis was to combine nature with the function of outdoor living space, designed to accommodate the client's lifestyle. The plan carefully designed went into using native plant material with consideration toward sustainability. Native grasses, perennials, and ornamental trees were chosen for not only their beauty, but for coastal wind, and salt resistance. The team used high quality stone from local quarries to accomplish the hardscaping including an inviting dry-laid stone patio that extends the entertaining area, with a view of the water. There was a steep slope down toward the water that was a design challenge in the . To mitigate the challenge, our team designed a series of terraced gardens to create a visual landscape and stabilize the slope. Retaining walls were custom built, marrying function with art, into a beautiful feature. Attention to detail was addressed throughout the implementation of the . For example, low-voltage LED was used to light the landscape at night, and furniture was chosen to forward the feeling of designed spaces, while still maintaining high quality materials akin to the natural outdoor surrounding. At the completion of the , the landscaping produced a serene and inviting outdoor oasis that the client was very happy with. The not only improved the curb appeal of the property, but, produced a refreshing oasis away from home for family and friends to convene, relax and take in the beauty of Long Island Sound. Clients and visitors alike are welcomed to a unique interface of nature and spatial design, which highlights the quality of work produced by PETER ATKINS AND ASSOCIATES, LLC.
