The Watering Hole Sponsored by Carson Douglas Landscape Architecture, 'The Watering Hole' is an incredibly forward-looking example of Nasturtium landscaping at the new permanent outdoor living exhibition space in downtown San Diego. This supports residents in Bonita to Point Loma and sits in the pool at a sun-drenched yard that complements the natural structure and offers families and friends a respite from the afternoon sun. It is low maintenance and encourages local biodiversity, combining native plants with striking florals in a modern design. Features include a custom water feature that resembles a natural pond with soft cascades and a rippling pebble-lined stream that attracts natural wildlife. It acts not simply as a feature but also contributes to the calm atmosphere the space intends to create. The team used quality materials like weather-resistant composite decking and natural stone to combat challenges including high slopes and drainage problems. Thoughtful planning integrated the terraced gardens so they add character and interest, with seating areas inviting for rest and reflections. The end result is a cohesive landscape that combines water, greenery and utility with a refreshing oasis the client enjoys and an example of sustainability.
