Mercer Island - Layered Planting Design Natural Greenscapes LLC has just finished a lovely landscaping on Mercer Island that highlights our skills in layered planting design. The goal of this was to create a beautiful garden that is ecologically sustainable and flexible as it relates to the native landscape and is beautiful throughout the seasons. The design features a selection of native and ornamental plants carefully arranged in layers to create depth and texture. Our design included bright perennials, unique shrubs, and ornamental trees. Monies and maintenance were also taken into consideration as we choose the plants for aesthetic appeal throughout the seasons. Locally harvested boulders out of boulder fields and steadfast natural stone paved paths were not only appealing, but also drained water and aided in keeping soil healthy. One of the challenges with this garden was working on a slope of land. We were challenged with innovative ideas to prevent erosion of soil while creating a garden that would drink and absorb rain and melt water for irrigation. Our crew developed terraced planting beds utilizing fabric and wood to create separate beds for a number of different plants, stabling the soil and providing some dimension. The finished landscape is a beautiful landscape that blends function and beauty in the outside space. The layered planting design creates beauty and movement every season, for the client to enjoy and adding charm to the entirety of the property. Not only does this fairly capture another town in our expanded region of service of Beaux Arts Village/Bellevue/Eastside and beyond but it transforms an outdoor expanse into a functional/playful area to engage.
