About This Project

The County Road Farmhouse project in Rensselaer, New York, elegantly blends traditional architectural elements with contemporary living. The site presented unique challenges as it was somewhat sunken below the county road. To address this, we expertly brought in fill material to create a level plateau for the house and garage, ensuring a solid foundation while enhancing the property's visual appeal. The structure features classic clapboard siding, harmonizing with the nearby original farmhouses, while the open link connecting the house to the garage fosters a seamless flow between the two spaces. Inside, the design shifts towards a contemporary aesthetic, with thoughtful touches that cater to the lifestyle of a musical family. One of the standout features is the gracefully curved living room ceiling, which not only adds architectural interest but also enhances acoustics—perfect for gatherings and musical activities. Natural light floods the interior, particularly in the upstairs quilting room, where expansive windows offer a bright, inspiring space for creativity. The project emphasizes sustainability, with a goal of achieving Net Zero energy consumption. To this end, we incorporated triple glazed windows that ensure excellent insulation and energy efficiency. Additional enhancements include superior insulation throughout the structure, a heat pump HVAC system for optimal climate control, and a solar array strategically positioned on the south-facing roof. This combination of features not only reduces the home's carbon footprint but also significantly lowers utility costs, making it an environmentally friendly choice. Craftsmanship is evident throughout the County Road Farmhouse, with attention to detail in both the exterior and interior finishes. The outcome is a harmonious blend of traditional farmhouse charm and modern functionality, making it a perfect residence for those who appreciate quality, comfort, and sustainability in their home.
