From Loft to Fantastic

The "From Attic to Awesome" project transformed an underutilized attic space in a classic Tudor home in Minneapolis into a stunning 900 sq. ft. living area, designed for comfort and functionality. Initially a rough, storage-only attic, this project involved significant structural modifications, including raising the roof and adding two large shed dormers to enhance the space's usability and aesthetics. A structural engineer was engaged to ensure compliance with stringent building codes, allowing for a secure and robust foundation for the new design. The remodeling process spanned approximately four months, beginning with the reframing of roof support elements and the application of closed cell spray foam insulation. This not only provided thermal efficiency but also ensured a cozy environment during the harsh Minnesota winters. The entryway features a beautifully crafted stairway with a white railing, promoting an open feel while maintaining safety. Upon entering, a short hallway lined with white shaker-style cabinets leads to the expansive living area, where four pairs of south-facing windows flood the space with natural light. The luxurious 130 sq. ft. bathroom showcases a soaking tub and an open shower room, adorned with floor-to-ceiling 2-inch porcelain tiling and a custom heated floor, creating a spa-like atmosphere. Natural stone accents enhance the aesthetic appeal, while a skylight and additional windows provide ample illumination. The other half of the bathroom is efficiently designed with a toilet and pedestal sink, complemented by granite countertops. The main living space is characterized by its unique ceiling angles, a result of the original architectural design, which maximizes interior volume and eliminates the cramped feeling common in attic conversions. With six skylights and eight south-facing windows, the area is bright and inviting, perfect for both relaxation and entertainment. The flexible layout allows for various configurations, making it ideal for a bedroom or living room. Accentuated by recessed lighting on dimmers, this space is ready to be personalized with art and furnishings, promising a warm, welcoming atmosphere for guests.
