With our recent , simply d 'Shed,' we can demonstrate how we can take a typical backyard and turn it into an exquisite outdoor area. This , located in the stunning Charleston area, involved creating a beautiful outdoor space that complimented the functions of a shed. The 'Shed' began with a comprehensive consultation where we met together with homeowners to develop their dreams. We identified a need for a multifunctional shed that would not just work as a storage unit, but contribute to the landscape design. We used beautiful, high quality, treated cedar wood so the arrangement would be durable. Taking it a step further, we covered it with a perfectly suited, quaint corrugated metal roof. One of the biggest challenges of the 'Shed' was the limited space in the backyard. To help resolve this issue, we designed a vertical garden along the side of the shed with wall-mounted planters filled with native plants. The vertical garden achieved two goals it maximized the space we had to work with, and it contributed positively to the local ecosystem by providing life for our pollinators. We designed a stone path to the shed made of flagstone sourced locally which came together beautifully with the other elements. Building a shed was not enough, and we planned to include a space for gathering around a fire with custom benches and an area for a fire pit. The space is perfect for family gatherings and/or relaxing. The entire was designed with sustainability in mind in terms of the native plants (which require little irrigation and maintenance) to help keep the landscape looking lush and inviting all year long. When completed, the homeowners were so excited with the finished product. 'Shed' is not only functional, but also a beautiful focal piece of the backyard.
