About This Project

The "Big Impression for Smallish Kitchen" project revitalized a charming kitchen in Terrell Hills, San Antonio, transforming it into a bright and open space that defies its modest size. The original layout featured a load-bearing wall that interrupted the flow between the kitchen and the living area, creating a confined atmosphere. To enhance the kitchen's openness and brightness, RPD strategically removed a portion of this wall, incorporating a robust LVL support beam to ensure structural integrity. This thoughtful alteration not only improved sightlines but also allowed for abundant natural light to fill the area. The walls were meticulously finished with sheetrock, taped, floated, and treated with an “orange-peel” texture before being painted in a custom greige shade using SW Superpaint, providing a warm and inviting backdrop. The outdated countertops and backsplash were replaced with modern, high-quality materials that elevate the kitchen's aesthetic. RPD installed stunning 3x9-1/4 Dakota Tundra ceramic tiles on the floor, which harmoniously complement the newly selected Volakano Quartz countertops, featuring a standard edge profile that adds a touch of elegance. To enhance functionality, several cabinets were replaced with matching shaker-style units equipped with soft-close hinges. A custom-built lower cabinet included a convenient pull-out spice rack, demonstrating RPD’s commitment to both design and practicality. All cabinets were painted in pure white using SW ProClassic oil satin, creating a crisp and clean appearance that brightens the overall space. The attention to detail continued with the installation of four recessed LED puck lights, complete with a dimmer switch, which offers versatile lighting options. Finally, a new double deep single basin stainless steel sink accompanied by modern angle stop valves and a stylish faucet was installed, rounding out the kitchen's transformation. The result is a contemporary kitchen that leaves a lasting impression, perfectly blending style, functionality, and craftsmanship in a small space.
