Nestled in the heart of Berkeley, CA, the "Net Zero Energy Meets Feng Shui" project transformed a duplex into a stunning single-family residence, seamlessly blending sustainable design with the principles of feng shui. The design process was guided by three pivotal elements: breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the client’s spiritual connection to feng shui as advised by a renowned master, and the ambitious goal of achieving a net-zero energy home. To maximize the panoramic vistas, interior walls were minimized, promoting an expansive sense of openness that draws the eye toward the stunning landscape. The feng shui master played a crucial role in reconfiguring interior spaces, ensuring a harmonious flow of energy, or Chi, throughout the home. This radical reorganization not only enhances the living experience but also fosters a tranquil environment, aligning with the client’s lifestyle aspirations. Sustainability was at the forefront of this project, with the implementation of a thermal solar system that efficiently provides heating for radiant floors and domestic hot water. Photovoltaic panels were strategically installed, generating electricity that powers the residence while significantly reducing energy costs. The use of high-quality, sustainable materials throughout the construction process not only supports the environment but also contributes to the home’s overall aesthetic appeal. One of the standout features of the residence is the contemporary bathroom, designed to create a serene retreat within the home.
