The started with a comprehensive landscape design that exploited the property's beautiful views of Lake Winnipesaukee. Our team responsively introduced native plants, including perennials and ornamental grasses, to capitalize on the inherent characteristics of the landscape and encourage natural biodiversity, while at the same time entertaining all four seasons of bloom with seasonal flowers and evergreen shrubs. There was a challenge in dealing with the challenges of the sloping terrain that presented down to the lake. Our team had created a sustainable terracing solution by placing and stabilizing locally sourced granite boulders as means to build levels in the landscape that were visually appealing and 'encouraged exploration'. We also introduced a winding stone path cut from a reclaimed bluestone that weaves through the garden and leads invitingly to the seating area that overlooks the water. Also inviting more outdoor use, we created a custom fire pit decked with natural stone seating to host evening gatherings under the odd starry night sky. Finally, several elements of soft ambient lighting were affixed in and around paths and adjacent to the seating, contributing to a warm ambiance that can continuously used late into the night. The outcome of the Lake Winnipesaukee Retreat is an amazing outdoor retreat that aligns with a client desired vision and "pool" of outdoor features that exceeds their expectation.
