Keuka Lake Waterfront Living represents a remarkable transformation from a century-old cottage to a sophisticated year-round residence, beautifully situated on the shores of Keuka Lake in Penn Yan, NY. The project began with the clients' aspiration to restore their beloved cottage, which had served as a cherished family retreat for generations. However, upon deeper inspection, the structural challenges proved insurmountable, prompting the decision to construct a new home that honors the spirit and lines of the original structure. Collaborating closely with the talented local design/build team of Earl and Marla Makatura, the new home was designed to evoke the charm of the former cottage while incorporating modern amenities and finishes. The design choices reflect a timeless coastal aesthetic, characterized by light and airy spaces that seamlessly blend form and function. The interiors, brought to life by Heather and Mat, showcase careful attention to detail with an emphasis on craftsmanship. One of the most significant aspects of the project was the clients' desire to integrate salvaged elements from the original cottage. Vintage doors and a custom kitchen pantry cabinet were thoughtfully incorporated into the design, providing a sense of continuity and nostalgia. The dining table, handcrafted by the clients themselves, serves as a centerpiece that embodies their personal connection to the space. The outcome is a stunning residence that not only pays homage to its historical roots but also meets the modern needs of a year-round home. The transitional bathroom exemplifies the project’s design ethos, featuring elegant fixtures and finishes that harmonize with the overall coastal theme.
