About This Project

The Woodside Residence project transformed a quaint 1980s home, nestled among towering redwood trees, into a spacious and light-filled haven for a growing family. Addressing the need for enhanced natural daylight and additional space for visiting in-laws, the design team undertook significant renovations that beautifully integrated the home with its forested surroundings. Central to this transformation were the installation of large skylights above the central stairway, which not only flooded the interior with natural light but also created a dynamic visual connection to the outdoors. Throughout the home, window sizes were thoughtfully increased, allowing for expansive views of the vibrant landscape while inviting ample sunlight into the living spaces. A particularly striking feature is the new large sliding door in the master bedroom, which opens onto a uniquely designed wedge-shaped deck. This deck elegantly wraps around a majestic redwood tree, fostering a seamless indoor-outdoor transition that enhances the home's overall living experience. The lower level of the residence saw the addition of an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), a carefully designed space that accommodates guests while extending the usable living area of the main flo. This new unit not only serves practical needs but also reflects the same design ethos as the rest of the home, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic throughout. In terms of materials, the project employed high-quality, sustainable resources, aligning with the natural surroundings and promoting long-term durability.
