About This Project

Coastal Rhode Island Garden: Salt Pond Friendly Gentle Gardener Green Design proudly introduces our latest landscape "Coastal Rhode Island Garden: Salt Pond Friendly," a remarkable landscape that embodies the coastal experience while respecting ecological responsibility. Located in the beautiful community and surrounding area of Charlottesville, this garden showcases the best of what we can do to support sustainable landscaping while enhancing the beauty of the natural environment. This incorporates beautiful native plant species that were selected for their ability to thrive in salt and brackish conditions, and thus can withstand the typical elements of a coastal site. We chose a diverse planting palette of ornamental grasses, salt-tolerant shrubs, and perennials that will provide year-round interest in the landscape while benefitting local wildlife. Permeable pavers were used for pathways to redirect rains to the soil instead of runoff. One notable challenge was the proximity to the salt pond, which limited our plant and material selections regarding their future viability. We chose materials that were coastal friendly and researched which materials would be supplied locally. For example, we used reclaimed wood for raised beds and locally sourced stone for natural edging. Along with sustainable goals for our design, we also wanted the to look aesthetically pleasant. The end product is a beautiful coastal garden that resonates with the essence of Rhode Island natural beauty. Our client was very happy with the - an attractive outdoor living space that invites tranquility and provides habitat for wildlife. "Coastal Rhode Island Garden: Salt Pond Friendly" demonstrates Gentle Gardener Green Design's commitment to not only quality and creativity, but also environmental stewardship. This proudly enhances the beautiful landscapes of Aroda, Barboursville, Gordonsville, and beyond.
