Landscaping with Wheatsville Co-op by Fertile Ground Organic Gardens We are proud to be a part of the Wheatsville Co-op landscaping , a transformation of what we hope is the first of many such s that beautify nature and our lives as a result of the dedication to sustainability. Fertile Ground Organic Gardens A beautifully designed and installed series of native plant gardens, edible landscapes and inviting outdoor gathering spaces adapted to the co-op and its objectives of community and wellness, created amidst the bustling community of Austin. A highlight of this was a mix of native plants installed, chosen to be hardy and low water using plants that promote biodiversity and provide vital habitat for pollinators. We purchased organic soil amendments and mulch, trying to find a balance between giving them the health the plants needed while minimizing our impact. With its complex topography, the site presented various challenges that were addressed with care, including cutting and filling, grading to achieve aesthetic layers, and careful drainage planning. We navigated logistical challenges by collaborating with regional providers to obtain materials that corresponded with the tenants of the co-op, including developed stone paths and normally gathered timber for raised garden beds. The end product is an eye-catching scene of flower beds and herb gardens, along with shaded seating areas made of natural stone, combining beauty and functionality into an easy-to-use landscape. Installing rainwater harvesting systems not only supports resource conservation, but also serves as a learning tool for consumers in the co-op. The clients were over the moon with the metamorphosis, they were thankful the inviting space had now turned to a place for community events and workshops.
