For over a century, these plants have graced American gardens. This branching annual grows 18-30 inches tall and the blossoms come in rose, salmon, white, scarlet and violet colors and bloom continually during the summer and early fall.
Grows best in rich, well-drained soil and in full sun, except in very hot climates where some afternoon shade is best. Sow seeds outdoors after all danger of frost is past. For an earlier start, sow seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost. Cultivate and fertilize soil, firm over seeds, and keep moist. Water heavily and fertilize twice during the summer. Pinch tops from tallest plants to encourage bushiness.
