When you think about a nice crispy slice of lettuce in your sandwich, then look no further than the Great Lakes Premier. This iceberg lettuce grows well in warmer months. Select a sunny, well-drained location and sow seed as soon as the ground can be worked. For an earlier crop start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Sow in late summer for a fall crop. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth with rake. Firm soil over seed. Keep soil moist, weed free and feed 4-5 weeks after planting. Heads are ready when center feels firm.
