About This Project

The University Area Residence in New Orleans, LA, underwent a transformative renovation to enhance the functionality and aesthetic appeal of its kitchen. The existing kitchen was characterized by inefficiency, with limited counter space and a sparse array of cabinets that hindered everyday culinary tasks. Our design strategy focused on reorganizing the kitchen appliances to create an efficient work triangle, ensuring that the cooking, prep, and cleaning zones were optimally connected for seamless workflow. To maximize storage, we customized the cabinet depths, resulting in a harmonious blend of deep and shallow cabinets that created a continuous flow. This innovative approach not only expanded storage capacity but also improved the overall usability of the kitchen. One of the standout features of the redesign is the new shallow work counter along the expansive window wall. This area is flanked by tall storage cabinets, providing the client with a comfortable space to prepare meals while enjoying the natural light. The shallow counter serves dual purposes; it acts as an additional prep area and transforms into a serving counter for entertaining guests, enhancing the kitchen's versatility. Despite the limited footprint, we capitalized on the high ceilings by incorporating tall wall cabinets and pantry storage, ensuring that every inch of space was utilized effectively. A strategically placed tall cabinet next to the refrigerator accommodates the microwave, while a previously underutilized corner is now designated for a toaster oven, maximizing countertop efficiency. The result is a kitchen that not only meets the practical needs of the homeowner but also embodies a warm, traditional design aesthetic. This renovation exemplifies our commitment to craftsmanship and thoughtful design, making the University Area Residence a true showcase of modern efficiency blended with classic charm.
