This initially started with a consultation as I wanted to find out how my clients vision for a more functional and aesthetically pleasing backyard space. It was important to create a comfortable place to gather and entertain, as well as commemorate Memorial Day. There were a few challenges such as it being quite small and there being no flat ground so we had to design our layout in a creative manner. Using some high-quality materials throughout, we laid down a durable paver surface for a new patio area this functional surface now serves well for hosting meetings and gatherings and it also provides a visual enhancement to the landscape to boot. We used local drought-tolerant plants that would easily grow in our coastal climate. We rounded this off with our custom-built fire pit with surrounding seating for our guests to spend time together in the evenings. We also planted a large, colorful perennial flower bed, located in such a way that it attracts attention and becomes a focal point in the yard. This was complemented by subtle lighting fixtures which maintained both ambience and allowed the space to seamlessly transfer from day to night. The end product was a beautiful oasis that the client could only have hoped for. The backyard turned into a favorite spot for their Memorial Day event, which turned out beautiful so his friends and family could celebrate. The design incorporated plenty of greenery, some seating areas, and various landscape elements, creating an attractive and functional landscape space that met the landowner’s requirements, both in the short and the long run, increasing their property value.
