This began with a full site analysis of the unique topography and existing vegetation on the property. We set out to meet the challenge of creating a cohesive design that respects the home's traditional architecture while elevating the richness of the natural setting. The landscape design contains a range of native plantings that were thoughtfully selected and designed to be a sustainable solution for planting in our local climate. Some highlights of the garden design include a natural stone patio made of locally sourced granite for outdoor entertaining, a winding path lined with ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and other native plantings to guide guests through the property, and a custom cedar pergola with climbing vines that acts to anchor the garden and evokes rest. To anchor the garden and enrich it with four-season color, we included evergreen shrubbery and seasonal blooms that create visual interest as the seasons shift. We sourced rustic materials, such as reclaimed wood for raised garden beds, and borrow the decorative stone accents from the existing site to preserve the rustic quality of the landscape. While we experienced various challenges related to drainage and level changes, the team successfully overcame these issues, installing French drains and terraced planting beds, ensuring effective long-term operation of the landscape. The end result is a beautiful, sustainable outdoor space that not only provides curb appeal but also serves as an outdoor escape for the homeowners.
