Webster, MA - Lake House Full Property Design Sallie Hill Design, Landscape Architect, is excited to share the final stage of the design transformation of a lake house property in Webster, Massachusetts. This showcases a full landscape design that reflects a natural yet designed look to take advantage of the existing lakeside aesthetic of the home. The focus of this was to develop a unified outdoor living area that fits with the existing setting. Integration of an expansive multi-layer deck was made with sustainably sourced Ipe wood that stays true to the natural setting, while also maintaining durability. The deck leads to a well-designed stone patio, built with locally sourced bluestone, for outdoor entertaining that has expansive views of the lake. The natural landscape was also enhanced through the use of a variety of native plantings that thrive in the local conditions. This gives seasonal color, new textures and promotes local biodiversity through cultivation of wildflowers and ornamental grasses. An irrigation system was customized for this garden so that water is used appropriately to foster a lush garden habitat. One of the main challenges was customizing the gardens to the slope of land that leads to the lake, with this concern addressed through a series of terraced gardens using natural stone walls as a retaining mechanism. The terracing provided layers that opened the property for use and made it more functional and attractive. The terracing also helps to control water quality from runoff, a great feature for sustainable landscape care. The completed provides a stunning outdoor retreat that our clients are excited , with seamless transition from indoor space to outdoor space and tranquility views of the landscape all the way.
