About This Project

Mercer Island Waterfront Estate Located on a lovely stretch of waterfront on Mercer Island, the Mercer Island Waterfront Estate is a beautiful showcase of landscape design created by Mark S. Garff, Landscape Architect. This extensive converted a large waterfront estate into an extraordinary retreat that blends beautifully with its natural environment. The design uses an engaging assortment of native planting and carefully placed hardscapes, including elegant stonemason paths and a custom-built firepit for outdoor enjoyment. The use of local materials, like basalt stone and cedar wood, adds charm, and durability to the estate. Steep topography at the site posed one of the main challenges while trying to preserve the views toward Lake Washington. Followed by expansive two-dimensional plans, the design utilizes innovative terracing design to create tiered and meaningful garden spaces at the edge of the home and the water. The end product increased the sites outdoor living area while mitigating soil erosion across an edge of the property. Water features, including a koi pond and waterfall, add to the sensory experience and provide pleasant sound to the lush environment. Sustainability was important to philosophy, and a rain garden was added to help mitigate stormwater runoff while enhancing biodiversity. The end product is a beautiful landscape that makes the client happy and enables the property for waterfront living. Mercer Island Waterfront Estate is evidence of Mark S.
