Located in central Los Angeles, the 's goal was to create a calm poolside retreat while supporting water conservation. The design team chose native and drought tolerant plants, including bright succulents, ornamental grasses, and fragrant herbs known to thrive in Southern California. California poppies and lavender were used not just for their hue, but also to promote pollinator species within the garden. To create a polished look, we utilized high-quality, permeable pavers for the patio bordering the pool. This choice maintained an echo of nature in the garden while allowing for effective drainage that minimizes runoff and encourages groundwater recharge. Additionally, we incorporated a custom drip irrigation system to provide direct, efficient watering and avoid wasteful water use. While the was ultimately a success, we faced challenges including rocky soil conditions and existing drainage concerns. We overcame these issues with skilled landscaping that involved amending the soil and constructing natural swales to direct excess water away from the pool. The result is a spectacular low-maintenance garden that invites relaxation and leisure that is in line with our client’s goals.
