About This Project

From Lawn to Garden by Viola Gardens At Viola Gardens, we recently completed a transformative landscape , "From Lawn to Garden," in central Los Angeles. Our clients desired to transform their standard lawn into a lively, sustainable garden oasis that benefited their living space as well as their local ecosystem. This consisted of the removal of the existing turf which allowed us to create a diverse landscape designed with native plants, drought-resistant shrubs, and colorful perennials. We chose materials to fit the garden aesthetics while adhering to sustainable design practices. We created inviting paths made from permeable pavers so when it does rain, that moisture is absorbed into the ground rather then having runoff. While designing the landscape, one of our major challenges was the rocky soil that is typical for Los Angeles. To overcome this, we used raised garden beds to improve soil quality and increase visual interest. We added a drip irrigation system, which met our desire for conservation while being mindful of water usage which has been a core value for us. The final product is a beautiful garden teeming with life, texture, color, and fragrance. Our clients were just thrilled with the results! Their new space has become a quiet place for family gatherings and a habitat for local wildlife.
