About This Project

Japanese Garden Milwaukee Landcrafters, helmed by Michael A. Manke, ASLA, is proud to showcase the 'Japanese Garden Milwaukee,' a beautiful landscaping that shifted a suburban landscape to an oasis of calm. Located in Milwaukee, the Japanese garden offers a peaceful space of reflection and restores natural beauty from the art of traditional Japanese design. The includes an authentic koi pond, highlighted by a waterfall that creates a pleasing sound and enhances the experience of the space. The koi pond is wrapped with natural stone walkways and lush greenery that amplifies the natural tones of the environment. And, because authenticity is important, all of the materials were sourced from the highest quality stones, including, minimally quarried local granite and artisanal river stones that added rustic elegance to the development. Incorporating plant materials, like Japanese maples, bamboo, and hand-pruned azaleas allows the principles of simplicity and nature to be in-tune with our design. Additionally, features like a zen sand garden and tea house were created to encourage awareness and reflection. Our team experienced challenges with the settles and drainage characteristics that required unique site materials. We committed to creating the best policed solution through a purposeful drainage design and improved soil properties so that the landscape remained intact while promoting plant longevity. The final result is a stunning Japanese garden that will bring joy to the client and offer a quiet respite from the city. Each aspect has been purposefully curated to create a feeling of sameness to environment to create balance and tranquility to enjoy the aspects that come from Japanese tradition. Ultimately, 'Japanese Garden Milwaukee' exemplifies Landcrafters' commitment to timeless quality and craftsmanship, all while focusing on detailing a feature of beauty that will be enjoyed from Brookfield to Milwaukee, to Wauwatosa, Whitefish Bay, Fox Point, Bay Side and Lake Country.
