Color and Light By: Renee Byers, Landscape Architect, P.C. - Greenwich 'Color and Light', located in Greenwich, is an expression of the impact of good landscaping. This focused on creating a colorful outdoor space filled with plantings and lighting that would complement the site's aesthetic and functionality. Renee Byers and her team chose a beautiful mix of seasonal flowering plants, consisting of perennials and annual plants, to ensure a colorful offering throughout the growing season. Ornamental grasses, continuing hydrangeas and fragrant lavender were all used to maintain a unifying experience connecting the color and flow of the garden. Pathways of bluestone sourced from the local area were constructed for durability and functionality while leading the visitor through layers of designed landscape. The posed several challenges, including a severely uneven site. To combat this, the site was grated and retaining walls were built to ensure flat planting areas. Renee did challenge this idea of retaining walls by incorporating natural materials to hold back the earth while entering the site visually. A sustainable irrigation system was also used to allow for proper water management and to provide water for the varied plant life that the site achieved while proactively reducing waste. Renee and her team created a lighting plan that added to the function of the outdoor space. Adjustable LED light fixtures were carefully placed through the plantings, and this highlighted the varied texture of the plants and colors in the evening light. The outcome resulted in a visually stunning landscape that provides the aesthetic wants of the client while adding value and purpose of their property! The 'Color and Light' is a testament to Renee Byers' quality and values of focusing on the attention to detail that provides for a beautiful outdoor space - one that home owners continue to enjoy and share with their guest.
