Midcentury Creekside Located in Texas, Studio Outside Landscape Architects' 'Midcentury Creekside' illustrates the art of juxtaposing modern design with nature. A community has been reinvigorated, taking an underused ash creek waterway behind houses and creating a quiet retreat in the landscape that is respectful of midcentury architecture and the natural surroundings. The layout connects known native Texas plants selected for drought tolerance and beauty. Native trees, with wildflowers and ornamental grasses mixing the colours of the seasons, offer visual relief. A natural stone pathway of locally quarried limestone meanders through the landscape, inviting you to explore the and creating spaces for seating and quiet contemplation after a walk. The complexity of the emerged from the creek's natural flow and the incumbent possibility for erosion. Studio Outside designed a bio-swale system for managing stormwater runoff that aims to promote ecological health while maintaining a beautiful landscape that requires minimal maintenance. Natural boulders serve as durable retaining walls along the creek bank, creating stability while offering another aspect of nature as part of the overall landscape composition. The custom Fire Pit Section with midcentury-style seating provides an outdoor living space and acts as an excuse for families and friends to gather together and admire the outdoor space. An attractive landscape impossible to ignore, it captures everything the client requested in their vision for the landscape while creating and developing the overall connection to nature. The design delivers aesthetic and functional landscapes that delight clients.
