Saddleback Ranch by Surroundings Studio Located in Santa Fe, the Saddleback Ranch landscaping is a measure of the natural beauty combined with inventive design. Surroundings Studio took on the task of creating this large property into a beautiful oasis which encourages outdoor living while remaining respectful of the context with surrounding beauty. At the forefront of this was the idea behind creating multi-functional spaces outdoors for both entertainment and relaxing. Our designers created a series of patios to interact with each other, using local flagstone and adobe pavers to create a rustic, yet sophisticated look that pays tribute to the architecture of this region. Plants were selected that are both drought-resistant and native, to relate to the natural landscape while using less water. One of the biggest challenges in the was the slope of the land. The grading and drainage were designed to prevent erosion and manage water flow on the property. In order to solve drainage issues, we created a series of terraced gardens that introduced different levels of plantings and layers of flora while providing a usable, accessible property. The end result is both beautiful and functional. An expansive outdoor living space, including a fire pit and seating, encourages use and invites social engagement into the warm New Mexico evenings. A water feature was designed to mimic the surround streams found flowing in the area and adds a calming sound, creating a peaceful retreat in the home. The Saddleback Ranch reflects the quality of construction and the level of detail expected when working with Surroundings Studio, and more importantly leads to a satisfied client who is enjoying their landscape and ultimately supporting their lifestyle. This is a testament to our commitment to designing distinct outdoor spaces that embody the spirit of Santa Fe.
