Voight Residence - Historic Georgian Patio Space Completion by J. Gieo Pensoneault, MLA The Voight Residence is located in the heart of Colorado Springs and contains a unique opportunity to combine history with enhanced landscaping design. This re-imagined an underutilized outdoor space into a Historic Georgian patio, pairing the aesthetics of landscaping elements with practical ways to navigate and use the patio space. To maintain the integrity of the architecture of the residence, we used authentic materialsreclaimed brick pavers and natural stonethat respect the Georgian style while also being durable. Our biggest challenge was working with existing mature trees and landscaping features to assure the new design of the outdoor patio facility meshed seamlessly into the existing, beautiful scale of landscaping features. Our design created a flow the indoor and outdoor spaces and an encouragement to walk through the [outdoor] space to reach seating spaces that are cozy and nestled within native perennials. The outcome is a beautiful and inviting outdoor living retreat that includes a fountain cordoned off by complimentary lighting in the evening. The clients loved the ability to maintain history while adding modern touchpoints reassuring utility in the space. This elevated the aesthetics of the Voight Residence and created a lovely space for family congregating and outdoor entertainingthe spirit of Colorado living.
