Spanish Courtyard Patio Garden

Description of the Spanish Courtyard Patio Garden by J. Gieo Pensoneault, MLA Located in the stunning Colorado Springs community, the Spanish Courtyard Patio garden is the manifestation of J. Gieo Pensoneault, MLA's seamless connection between creativity and function. Within the towns and cities of Air Force Academy, Black Forest, Colorado Springs, and Manitou Springs, we demonstrated a landscape peace between the plant palette and Spanish-style architectural features. Our began with the client's goal to create a truly unique outdoor space that encompassed the feeling of a Mediterranean-style courtyard while remaining in alignment with the Colorado landscape. After diligent site planning, the design included a monumental patio made of terracotta tiles and hand-built adobe walls (to enclose the patio space). Coupled with the warm tones of the materials used in the , the walls served to not only to incorporate privacy, but allure a true retreat, where the clients and their guests could detach. To combat the shifting Colorado weather conditions and its unique, and varying soil, each plant selected for the design were drought-tolerant and native to Cold Colorado (e.g., lavender, agave, ornamental grasses). The plants gave way not just vibration, but stunning year-round display, while providing sustainability and slashing maintenance time. Is the courtyard not a fabulous fabric of structure?! The Spanish-influenced courtyard includes a custom fountain designed to encompass the sound of water while attracting seasonal wildlife (birds). The fountain draws the eye, whilst invigorating the sensory experience of the overall garden. Bordering the fountain once again were Mediterranean herbs complimented by the beauty of bougainvillea in continuous flowering color. Seating was also carefully designed with artists tiles and wrought iron markings for the client to inhabit. The Spanish Courtyard Patio garden was a success as it far exceeded the clients vision, stands backgrounds for their family video shoots, creates value, or brings the clients through meditation along with the re-connection to nature. Altogether these aspects are the accumulations of the functionality found in Spain along with simple elegance in design. J. Gieo Pensoneault is consistent on driving for true craftsmanship through each dimension of the landscape regardless of specification.
