Marrying Elegant Design & Sustainability Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio (JMMDS) is thrilled to present the "Marrying Elegant Design & Sustainability" that embodies the possibility of balancing beauty and environmental stewardship through the art of landscape design. Located in beautiful Westminster and its nearby towns of Alstead, Chester, and Rockingham, this demonstrates our focus on innovative design and sustainable practices. The began with an analysis of the site so that the team could understand the unique topography and ecosystem of the surrounding area. The challenge was to convert a rugged site into an outdoor haven while being sensitive to the natural landscape. By utilizing native plant species as a base, we were able to add aesthetics to the design and pleased the client, while also enhancing the ability of wildlife to utilize the areas as habitat, while also reducing long-term maintenance. The features some beautiful perennial gardens, stone pathways made from locally sourced granite, and a water feature that acts as a primary focal point and habitat for beneficial wildlife. The also utilized permeable paving materials in the driveways for effective stormwater management, so that rainwater would be absorbed back into the ground system instead of running off the site. We also included a rainwater harvesting system that collects rainwater and utilizes it for irrigation of the landscaping as a sustainable practice and to minimize municipal water use. This practice is both ecologically friendly and cost-effective for the client. The results are a landscape that marries elegance and sustainability beautifully. From upon their arrival, clients and visitors alike experience the harmony of form and function through a landscape that is beauty well thought out, breathtaking, and ecologically delicate. This has elevated the aesthetic value of the property, while also fostering a new relationship with nature, delighting our clients and enhancing their experience in their outdoor spaces. At JMMDS, we are creating landscapes that enhance the beauty of the environment and bestow stewardship and sustainability and ensure our designs endure as we've made beauty out of barriers.
