About This Project

A Pool Terrace in Vermont Situated in the natural beauty of Vermont, the 'A Pool Terrace' by Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio (JMMDS) elevated an ordinary backyard site into an extraordinary outdoor living space that serves the lovely communities of Alstead, Bellows Falls and beyond. JMMDS embraced the beauty of the region in designing a custom pool terrace that perfectly fits with the surroundings. This is a combination of functional and beautiful design. The terrace is paved with natural stone pavers, selected for durability and beauty, that creates an attractive contrast to the abundance of green landscaping. Native plantings, including colorful perennials and ornamental grasses, were selected to improve aesthetics and local biodiversity. The site had a challenge with multiple elevations that JMMDS solved with tiered levels that create an easy transition from the home to the pool and enjoy the Vermont landscape around them. The thoughtful design of the site provided visual enjoyment without sacrificing accessibility. The use of sustainable practices through permeable materials to not only maximize drainage and minimize runoff was considered to minimize environmental impacts on ecological integrity of the site. The design included consulting custom seating areas and firepits to create relaxing and gathering spaces for community and family throughout the year. In the end, the space exceeded client expectations, as they expressed their appreciation for the craftsmanship and creativity that brought their vision to fruition. 'A Pool Terrace in Vermont' exemplifies the values of JMMDS in quality, creativity, and client fulfillment and provided a perfect example of landscaping in Vermont.
