Rustic Landscape Design for a Tuscan-Inspired Hunting Lodge In the stunning landscape of Vermont, the "Rustic Landscape Design for a Tuscan-Inspired Hunting Lodge" performed by Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio (JMMDS) is a perfect expression of nature and architecture. Working for the lovely towns of Alstead, Bellows Falls, and beyond, this is representative of JMMDS's work to create outdoor spaces that are connected to their landscape. As a team, we created the welcoming landscape that evoked idyllic warmth of Tuscany with plant selections of native lavender and rosemary and ornamental grasses that we gently moved in the winds in the region. Locally-sourced stone pathways traversed the property's landscape and extended a thoughtful invitation to the seating areas made for observing the picturesque scenery. A primary challenge on this was implementing the rustic architecture of the lodge while respecting the landscape and our ecology. To connect a strong sustainability component to the design, we thoughtfully integrated a rainwater harvesting plan to water the landscape with minimal disturbance. Overall, the was a beautiful outdoor venue that connected with the lodge and enhance the overall use for the property, as well for gathering and relaxing. The beautiful stone and plant combinations of seating areas was a delightful synthesis of the clients ideas turned into reality. The is an example of JMMDS's work in professional landscape design, and a space that represents narratives of the land and of sustainability.
