Our team carefully selected a mix of plants including colorful succulents, fragrant lavenders, and groundcovers to provide year-round color and texture. Pathways made of natural stone navigate visitors through the garden with each weaving connection from one area to the next. Among the challenges of the was the uneven land of the estate requiring creative grading and retaining walls from stones sourced from the surrounding area. This gave the opportunity to rectify some of the negatives of settling from erosion, while also providing an organic aesthetic into the landscape. In addition we were able to create a tiered planting bed to provide height and visual color. The central feature of the San Rafael Estate Garden is a peaceful water element developed to address familiar sounds to enhance the aesthetics of the space. Using naturally sourced boulders to surround and plant lush vegetation around the feature. This encouraged wildlife to the functioning water as well as a resting place for the lovely owners. We created an outdoor living space in the garden which included a rook-made pergola to provide ideas for shade, and a place to relax enjoying family and friends.
