The design includes an intricate layout of drought-resistant plants, specifically selected for the climate. Varieties of California natives were intertwined into the design and included colorful California poppies, fragrant lavender, and sturdy manzanita to add diversity and low water use. The landscape contains gently sloped paths made to local granite, leading visitors through thoughtful garden beds and providing a tasteful touch that connected them to the surrounding landscape. One challenge we faced on the included the sloped Mill Valley landscape. Our talented team designed multiple tiered garden beds to create staggering layers and the use of natural stone walls to secure the land as well as create visual interest and stability. This creatively married beauty and function to enhance the use of space while ensuring proper drainage to prevent erosion. We also equipped the space with a custom irrigation system to maximize water use. A drip irrigation system and smart timers were installed to ensure each plant would receive just the right amount of water, keeping it sustainable and relatively low maintenance. The final result is a stunning garden that is in harmony with the natural landscape. The homeowners now have a peaceful space to retreat in, while providing a welcoming habitat for wildlife.
