About This Project

Jeff and Anne's Garden Oasis by Jason Lackey, Landscape Designer Located in the midst of Dallas' urban setting, Jeff and Anne's landscaping displays a unique design and careful construction. Charged with converting a normal backyard into a peaceful retreat, Jason Lackey used a combination of native plants and high-quality materials to produce a landscape that is both harmonious and sustainable. The layout feels welcoming, particularly with a custom stone patio made of locally reclaimed flagstone melds with the plantings to form a connection within the vibrant landscape. A centerpiece to the entire is a beautiful water feature with a waterfall that draws people in but also creates a calming sound. Drought-resistance plants such as Texas sage and ornamental grasses highlight the beauty of the region while also serving the practicality of requiring very little upkeep. The biggest challenge was the slope of the yard, which Jason cleverly worked with. He tackled this challenge by installing tiered garden beds which added structural potential and drainage to completion of the . The result is a beautiful garden which is layered for visual aesthetics and function. Ultimately, at the reveal, Jeff and Anne were blown away. Their once underutilized outdoor space is now an amazing garden oasis, perfect for entertaining and relaxing. The intuitive selection of materials lending themselves to water-wise opportunities and the plants used call attention to the beauty and deliberation of Jason's vision as designer, and Jeff and Anne's aspirations for an acquired space that was now carried elevated from other's s and past notions for the yard romantically rediscovered. In the end, their backyard retreat, in depth and in materials selected and in craft came together to not just meet their expectations but to bring both Jeff and Anne greater excitement their backyard as the special little retreat, located in the middle of their beloved Dallas.
